LAY Turns Up The Heat This Summer With New Release For "BOOM"

Updated: Jul 24, 2020

Multi-talented artist, writer, dancer, and EXO member Lay Yixing has created sonic shockwaves with his latest comeback “Boom” from the 2nd part of his 4th studio album '莲 (Lit)'. The light, tropical beat strongly compliments Lay’s spicy lyrics and creates a refreshing summer atmosphere for the listener. “Boom” was released on July 8th, 2020 on all major music platforms, Twitter and Instagram. Lay also launched the #BOOMchallenge on TikTok.

As the 1st Chinese artist to enter the US Billboard Charts Top 200 and iTunes Chart at #60 with his 3rd studio album, 'Namanana', there has been a lot of excitement about Lay’s future work. He takes a very hands-on approach to all of his solo music: writing and producing songs and developing the choreography for the music videos and stage performances. His 4th studio album is no different, as he has been involved in every step of the process. The album title is '莲' - Chinese for the word “Lotus” and translates in English to the word “Lit.” The 12 song album is being released in 2 parts - the 1st 6 songs were co-produced with Grammy award-winning producer Murda Beatz (produced for Travis Scott, Gucci Mane, Drake) and focused on Lay’s Chinese heritage with the use of traditional Chinese instruments, cultural metaphors, and integrating an urban sound to make a unique Mandarin-Western blend of music. '莲 (Lit)' Part 1 was released on June 1st, 2020 with a supporting MV for the title track that has several references to the lotus flower, which symbolizes perfection and purity in Chinese culture. This title track is a strong statement as to Lay’s intention with this album - to create a bridge between the Chinese and Western cultures, his past and his present, through the perfection and purity of his music.

“Boom” is a pre-release for the '莲 (Lit)' Part 2 album. It is rumored that Lay worked with Grammy award-winning producer Scott Storch (produced for Dr. Dre, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake) in an effort to create a colorful, exciting union of Mandopop and Western Pop music. If “Boom” is any indication, the 2nd part of this album is going to be amazing!
